Michelle Kafka knows her way around the world of public relations. Graduating from Florida State with a Bachelors in Media Communication Studies and receiving her Masters soon after in Integrated Marketing Communications, Michelle immediately jumped into all things PR related. She began her career as an Account Coordinator before transitioning into her bigger roles of Account Manager, Senior Account Executive, and her current role as the COO and Account Director of Kafka Media Group.

Kafka Media Group (KMG) bridges the intersection between PR, advertising, and brand engineering into one successful agency based out of Los Angeles. They have over 1 million social media followers, have won 17 awards, and have received over 824 million media impressions. To say the least, KMG is a force to be reckoned with.

What is daily life like for you as a PR professional working at Kafka Media Group?

We founded Kafka Media Group because we wanted every day to be better than the last in terms of client results, the environment we work in, and the excitement of what’s next. Daily life consists of talking strategy with our amazing clients, researching and making sure the team is on top of the latest trends and conversation, and focusing on how to continue building the agency.

What has been the best moment of your PR career so far? Is there more than 1?

The best moment of my PR career so far would have to be the first client launch that we worked on upon officially opening the KMG office. It was an amazing success and really validated what we were trying to accomplish by starting the company.

Who have you worked with and what placements have you secured?

We are really proud to work with a variety of sports, entertainment, and technology companies. Our placements vary from Fast Company to ESPN and everything in-between.

What is the best PR advice you have given or received?

The best PR advice I’ve ever been given is to focus on your relationships, whether from a media perspective or from a co-worker perspective. Some of the other PR pros I’ve worked with are now my best friends and the same goes for journalists that I’ve worked with time and time again.

What are some career goals you are aiming for?

I’d like to continue growing KMG at a steady rate and make sure that client placements stay strategic.

What is your life like outside of the office? Hobbies/Passions?

Outside of the office, I love to read, go running, and go to the beach. Also, hanging out with my family is always nice for the work-life balance.
