A source who wants to get to know me should know I prefer talking on the phone as well as meeting in person. Being able to actually hear someone and put a name to a face is so important, especially since the world has gone so digital. Texting someone will only take you so far.

The most (or one of the most) fascinating person I’ve interviewed was Bruce Tromberg, who runs one of the institutes at the NIH because of the amazing, innovative tech he's developed in the healthcare realm. See this article here.

3. These days, I’ve been pretty obsessed with reading about…

These days, I’ve been pretty obsessed with reading about tech and innovation and startups. In terms of novels, I'm revisiting Greek mythology with The King Must Die by Mary Renault. Additionally, I am also reading Faith in Carlos Gomez: A Memoir of Salsa, Sex, and Salvation by Samantha Dunn. Samantha is editor of Coast Magazine in Orange County, and an inspiration as a local author.

4. The accomplishment I am most proud of in my writing career is…

The accomplishment I am most proud of in my writing career is the two biographies I've written. One is about a healer, which is based on Dr. Jack Miller who is a former Roman Catholic priest. The other is about an artist who became a businessman and is based on the life story of R.W. Forsum.

5. My “kind of sources” are those who…

My “kind of sources” are those who treat me with respect, who give me exclusives and who give me a heads up before news breaks. It is all about a relationship being transactional for both parties rather than just one party. If you can both offer each other something impactful and beneficial, then those are stepping stones to a relationships that you can build on.

6. People would never guess that I’ve written about…

People would never guess that I’ve written some humor columns and for Patch, which is a digital platform that provides users with stories and/or breaking news stories that are near them.

7. I met my best “PR” friend by…

I don't believe in playing favorites with my PR sources.

8. The most essential part of a working relationship is…

The most essential part of a working relationship is good, clear communication, trust and respect. You have to be able to communicate effectively with both trust and respect for a relationship to work.

Please do not send me pitches about things outside of my coverage area of SoCal. My area of expertise and the area of coverage for OC Startups Now revolves around startups and noteworthy innovations in the Socal area.

I would tell them to keep press releases short!
